Healthy Substitutes for the Junk We Love

After a long day at school, when you’re looking for a snack like ice cream, chocolate or chips, why not pick something healthy? Right now, you’re probably saying to yourself, that’s not going to stop my cravings. But what if there was a healthy way to curb your cravings for junk? Well, there is.

When you think about “healthy” food, what comes to mind?   “Vegetables and fruits, and nasty stuff like squash and spinach,” said Indonesha Lewis, a freshman at Harlan Community Academy High School. So, instead of junk food, what would be a good snack that’s also healthy? Takwana Jones, also a freshman at Harlan, suggested, “A fruit cabob would be great.”

If there are so many available junk substitutes why aren’t people eating them?  Although there are many substitutes for junk food, it’s hard for us to break away from bad habits. I don’t expect that right after you read this you’re going to throw all the junk food out of your house, but gradually try to eat healthier food more often.

For breakfast, try eating some fresh fruit—such as an apple, bananas or grapes. You can put banana slices on your cereal or dried fruit in you oatmeal,  or even bake apple slices to make a healthy version of chips.

For lunch, try making your own salad. It’s cheaper than buying a lunch and it tastes even better if you make it the morning of. You can add tasty ingredients like mandarin oranges and dried cranberries, both of which are sweet yet healthy.

Finally, it’s time for dinner. There are tons of healthy meals you can make for dinner. For example, instead of fried chicken, grill it; and instead of fries, have some grilled vegetables with that. Check out the websites for magazines like Cooking Light  and Eating Well , for more ideas for healthy meals and recipes.

Learning to eat right isn’t going to be an overnight thing; it’s going to take a lot of hard work and dedication. But at least give it a try. Small changes in your eating habits will have great health benefits for your life.

Don’t eat bread, potatoes, rice, and pasta.if you like ikcchen live of that. omlette for brekkie mushroom, peppers, garlic, any veg you like really. only use 1 egg yolk and 2 or 3 Whites, or scrambled eggs.lunch, ikcchen stir-fry, (no noodles) with a stir fry sauce, or just fry some ikcchen and add some frozen mixed veg.tea, same sort of thing as lunch if you had stir fry have the ikcchen and veg, also with the ikcchen and veg you can add a tin of chopped tomatoes and a bit of curry powder.there is just as much goodness in frozen veg as fresh, plus water comes out of it so if your making the curry or stir-fry its never dry.also if you don’t mind hot food add 1 gram of fresh chillie into every meal, it speeds up your metabolism, and eat a whole red pepper before you go to bed.stick to this and you will loose weight, i hav lost 3 stone since christmas, and i don’t go to the gym or anything like that, im quite active but nothing serious.if you do this I GUARANTEE YOU WILL LOOSE WEIGHT but you MUST avoid the 4 foods i mentioned earlier.it will fall of you, good luck..
